Creating your first Email address

If you have just recently been exposed to the world of internet and emails, first of all, we would like to tell you that there is nothing to be ashamed of. Some people may take a bit more time to get into it all, but one day, or at least that is how things seem, everyone is going to be online and people who do not use internet and emails will one day seem illiterate. So, congratulations to you for finally getting on board and discovering the amazing world of emails.

The best way to regard emails is hidden in the name. Namely, it is electronic mail and it basically acts like mail, only with certain alterations. For one, you have your own address which would be an analogue of your physical address. Other people also have their own addresses and you can send text to them, which are your basic emails, nothing but text. However, there are also other things that you can send via email such as pictures or documents, but this is not the topic of this article. Instead, we are going to tell you how you can go about creating your first email address and start using the amazing medium of emails to stay in touch with the world.

First of all, we should introduce email services that will give you an email address free of charge. There are innumerable such services, but if the popularity is anything to go by, and we have a suspicion that it is, the three most popular such services are Gmail, Yahoo mail and Hotmail. Vast majority of people are using these three services and they have addresses that end in @nameoftheservice.com. You can recognize which service they are using by the extension after the @ symbol. There are no true significant differences between these three services, although they do differ in certain additional options that they offer. However, for someone who is only interested in sending and receiving emails, they are pretty much interchangeable.

Creating an account on such services is really easy. First of all, you need to find an icon that says create an account, or something like that and click on it. You are then on your way. You will be asked some personal details about yourself in order to proceed. There is no need to worry about the confidentiality and security of your details as these companies are as safe as they get and your personal information will never be shared without your knowledge. Also, do not worry, they will not ask for any information that could not be found by checking your social security number.

The next thing that you will need to do is choose a username which will be your actual address, followed by @ and the name of the service.com. There is a possibility that your desired username has already been taken, especially if you have a rather common name and surname. However, you can always modify these by adding numbers at the end or by abbreviating a part of your name, perhaps including your nickname, etc. The next thing is coming up with the password. Avoid things like your birthday, or birthday of your relatives, and for God’s sake, do not put in 12345 as a password. Your password should be at least 8 characters long and it should at least contain some capital letters or numbers. You will be told how secure your password is when you choose it. If you are not satisfied, you can always come up with a new one.

After this, you only need to agree to privacy policy as well as terms of service which are a long read and something 99.99% of people do not read. You may read it if you want, but you do not need to worry about small print that says they can take your house when you click agree. It’s all very kosher and on the level. And then, you are done! Your account is activated practically immediately and you can start using emails to communicate with people. Plus, it is all for free!
